BARRIE MORSE
Marine Surveyor

Background & Experience

My initial training involved a traditional apprenticeship within mechanical engineering. Approximately 40 years ago my wife and I assisted with the construction of our first narrowboat which we designed and subsequently fitted out.

Shortly after we embarked upon a passage which involved a four-year cruise from Chester to Oxford gaining experience within the marine industry on the way.

My practical experience has been gained in the operation of Tooleys Boatyard at Banbury which involved the repair and construction of narrowboats.

Further training has encompassed in-house seminars and workshops with my previous professional association, the Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association (YDSA). Professional surveyors are obliged to keep abreast of new legislation including Boat Safety Standards, the Recreational Craft Directive and LPG codes of practice.

I am a retired member of the YDSA and now spend considerable time exploring Europe on my Dutch motor boat. Within the sphere of my semi-retirement I specialise in the oversight for the construction of new craft. Accordingly, Morse Marine can offer a consultation package to assist builders through the complexities of the RCD.
